Trouble erupted in the Ojinato community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State as a middle age man locally known as ‘The Boy’ is alleged to have clubbed his father to death over “yet to be established issues,” says police.
The State Police Command, confirming the incident, stressed that investigations have commenced investigations into the incident.
In a statement, police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu, a Supreitendent of Police, disclosed on Tuesday that the incident took place on the afternoon of Friday 4th of May, 2018 at Ojinato in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu state.
According to Amaraizu, “On that fateful day, Nathaniel Chukwuemerie of about 83 years, said to hail from Ogidi in Idemili North local Government Area of Anambra State, but residing at Ojinato in Oji River Enugu, had allegedly met his death when his son, identified as ‘The Boy’, whose real name is yet to be established, had allegedly smashed his head with a pestle over a yet to be established issue(s).
“Following the development, victim was promptly rushed by sympathizers to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead just as the corpse is now deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Oji River.”
Amaraizu said, though the suspect has been arrested, information available to the police was that before the unfortunate incident the suspect had been mentally ill.
“… a source close to the place of the incident revealed that before the incident the suspect has been behaving abnormally, suggesting mental illness,” the PPRO said.
